Let's
understand Jayadvaita Maharaja's words.
It's the
unnecessary usages of "Jai Prabhupada" that Maharaja is against. It
appears that the case is one for chanting more of Prabhupada’s names. It is to
be sustained then we question the reader if Prabhupada approved of chanting Jai
Prabhupada after ever 10 mantras of your 16 rounds each day?
1. If you
chant Jai Prabhupada after ever 10 mantras and call it as the glorification of
the Achraya then you are mistaken in a silly way. It is technically correct,
yes, it is glorification of the achraya. But it is inordinate and misplaced.
2. The NOD(Nectar
of devotion/Bhakti Rasamrita Sindu) says that the honoring of prasadam is
offensive if done in front of the deities. But prasadam is Krishna in the
edible form. Archa vigraha is Krishna in the stone form. So, how is it that
when Krishna is being masticated that Krishna should not be beheld through the instrument of human sight? It is not
all the same. This would be call nirvishesha vada. The argument of
non-uniqueness.
3. How about
the standards of cleanliness?
Every time
we finish eating prasadam we are supposed to do gargle our mouths, wash our
hands and feet before we chant. Why is this so if prasadam is Krishna? How can
Krishna sitting in our mouths cause for our mouths to be so contaminated that
we can take Krishna's name? The reminants of prasadam stuck in our mouth and
the names of Krishna that were to be chanted are non different. But it is an
injunction nonetheless. Thus, even though the Archa vigraha, prasadam and harinaam
are the same Krishna but still we have rules guiding us and restraining us.
4.
Jayadvaita maharaja is not against Jai Prabhupadas rather is doing the thankless
task of educating iskcon members as to what is the proper place to use of Jai
Prabhupadas.
a. Not in
the middle of the Guruvashtakam nor before
b. Not in
the middle of the tulsi prayer
c. Not in
the middle of Kirtan
Chant Jai
Prabhupada accompanied by the Sri Guru Charana prayers. That is the correct way
to glorify Prabhupada.
A super
excellent way to glorify Prabhupada is through the reading of his book,
listening of his lectures, conversations, etc. That is not being done. (The
demoniac North American GBC wanted to stop book distribution in NA some years
ago) This most important service, which most Prabhupada the most remains ever
so unattainable for the sahajiyas who are at the forefront of finding in faults
in someone who is an actual Advaita i.e. someone who is unmixed with the
material energy. Someone who is without duality, someone who is as Manu Samhita
says is ishvara sarvaha bhutanam dharma koshashya gupta ye- a controller of all
beings trusted with the protection of the treasury of the veda (vaishnava siddhanta).
Had the
critics only read more of Prabhupada’s books and understood the siddhanta in
its entirety then it would have been easy to understand the essence of his
words which were not at all unambiguous.
There has been a lot of misunderstanding of Sripad's words. It behooves us to say a few things in his defense. Maharaj as a been a kind teacher and a guide for me throughout the years. He is a very humble and polite person if you see past the exterior. What you will find is a man of substance and great integrity towards the siddhanta. Though we would have personally appreciated it had he been even more outspoken than what he is now. But that is ok. His most worshipable self has defended the books against the charge of the feminists of iskcon. That alone is a great service then what is to be spoken of the rest.
